ONE AND ONE MAKES TWO by Frank Willems.
Year: 2019 – 2025
Project category: clothing project for homeless
Location: Netherlands
In November 2019, artist Frank Willems launched the clothing project ONE AND ONE MAKES TWO. Born from a desire to do something about the growing divide between those with plenty and those with very little, the idea was simple yet powerful:
For every clothing item purchased, the exact same item is donated to a friend without a home.
This project is not just about offering warmth through clothing, but above all about creating connection. When two people – whose worlds may seem far apart – wear the same garment, it fosters a sense of unity. It may spark a conversation. It may spark recognition. But most of all, it makes visible that everyone has a story, and every story matters.
What have we achieved together?
Thanks to the support of many, between 2019 and 2025 the following items have been donated to people experiencing homelessness:
-
Over 600 hoodies, sweaters, and T-shirts
-
Over 1,500 pairs of socks
-
Over 250 pieces of underwear
-
Over 500 scarves, hats, and gloves
-
Over 150 face masks (during the COVID pandemic)
-
Over 80 Christmas gift packages
Each purchase was a direct act of solidarity. It didn’t just give clothing – it gave a gesture of humanity.
