The installation ALL EYES ON IO explores the complex relationship between sight, power, and control. In the works SILVER COLORED COW and ARGUS IN THE CINEMA, the eye becomes not just a sense, but an instrument of surveillance and influence. In SILVER COLORED COW, we see the mythical Io, transformed into a silver cow, struck by Zeus’ lightning. The surrounding text – “TURN YOUR MISTRESS IN A SILVER COLORED COW AND GIVE IT AS A GIFT TO YOUR WIFE” – adds a layer of provocation and cultural commentary, recalling how power can manifest through objectification and observation. ARGUS IN THE CINEMA places a pink, hundred-eyed giant in a cinema, fully equipped with eyes, a mask, and explicit sexual characteristics, creating a visual interplay between voyeurism, public and private space, and the absurdity of constant observation. The installation invites reflection on how observation shapes behavior, how visibility can imply control, and how these mechanisms penetrate everyday life—from mythological stories to Bentham’s Panopticon and Foucault’s theories of discipline. The work creates an intensive dialogue about presence, power, and the ever-watchful eye, where the viewer becomes both subject and object of observation.
