WHEN THEY COME, GIVE SOME BANANAS visualizes the inner chaos of anxiety and intrusive thoughts, inspired by The Imp of the Mind by Lee Bear. My head appears as a monkey’s, with the top open and filled with bananas. Tiny devilish monkeys – representing fears and negative thoughts – fly around, waiting for attention. But by giving them a banana, an act of acceptance, they lose their power or disappear. The accompanying text makes it clear: WHEN YOU DON’T ACCEPT IT THEY WILL COME AND WHEN THEY COME GIVE SOME BANANAS THEY WILL BE SATISFIED AND LEAVE. A playful yet confronting ritual inviting self-compassion and release from inner struggles.
