LOOKING FOR THE BIG FIVE is a series of five artworks in which a safari vehicle with figures in a savanna-like landscape looks to the left, searching for the Big Five. The heads of the figures stick out of the vehicle as they scan the landscape. One of the figures has stepped out and is looking behind the bush on the left in the foreground, as if something might be there.

At the same time, one of the Big Five animals is hiding near the bush on the right in each artwork: the lion, elephant, rhinoceros, buffalo or leopard. The head of the animal emerges from the image and looks toward the figures, as if it is hiding and secretly watching them. This creates a humorous scene.

Around the artwork appears the text: ALL THIS TIME, WE WERE LOOKING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. The sentence refers to the human tendency to constantly search for answers, while they may lie somewhere else—or sometimes do not need to be found at all.

LOOKING FOR THE BIG FIVE ist eine Serie von fünf Kunstwerken, in denen ein Safari-Fahrzeug mit Figuren in einer savannenartigen Landschaft nach links blickt, auf der Suche nach den Big Five. Die Köpfe der Figuren ragen aus dem Fahrzeug, während sie die Landschaft absuchen. Eine der Figuren ist ausgestiegen und schaut hinter den Busch links im Vordergrund, als ob dort etwas zu finden wäre.

Gleichzeitig versteckt sich bei dem Busch rechts in jedem Werk eines der Big-Five-Tiere: der Löwe, der Elefant, das Nashorn, der Büffel oder der Leopard. Der Kopf des Tieres ragt aus dem Bild heraus und blickt zu den Figuren, als würde es sich verstecken und sie heimlich beobachten. Dadurch entsteht eine humorvolle Szene.

Rund um das Werk steht der Text: ALL THIS TIME, WE WERE LOOKING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION. Der Satz verweist auf die menschliche Neigung, ständig nach Antworten zu suchen, während diese vielleicht ganz woanders liegen oder manchmal gar nicht gefunden werden müssen.

LOOKING FOR THE BIG FIVE is een serie van vijf kunstwerken waarin een safari-auto met figuren in een savanne-achtige omgeving naar links kijkt, op zoek naar de Big Five. De koppen steken uit het voertuig terwijl ze het landschap afspeuren. Eén van de figuren is uitgestapt en kijkt achter de struik links op de voorgrond, alsof daar iets te vinden is.

Tegelijkertijd verbergt zich bij de struik rechts in elk werk één van de Big Five-dieren: de leeuw, olifant, neushoorn, buffel of het luipaard. De kop van het dier komt uit het beeld en kijkt naar de figuren, alsof het zich verstopt en hen stiekem in de gaten houdt. Dat levert een humoristisch beeld op.

LOOKING FOR THE BIG FIVE est une série de cinq œuvres dans lesquelles un véhicule de safari avec des personnages, dans un paysage de type savane, regarde vers la gauche à la recherche des Big Five. Les têtes des personnages sortent du véhicule pendant qu’ils scrutent le paysage. L’un des personnages est descendu et regarde derrière le buisson à gauche au premier plan, comme si quelque chose pouvait s’y trouver.

En même temps, près du buisson à droite, dans chaque œuvre, se cache l’un des animaux des Big Five : le lion, l’éléphant, le rhinocéros, le buffle ou le léopard. La tête de l’animal sort de l’image et regarde les personnages, comme s’il se cachait tout en les observant discrètement. Cela crée une scène humoristique.

Las cabezas de las figuras sobresalen del vehículo mientras observan el paisaje. Una de las figuras se ha bajado y mira detrás del arbusto a la izquierda en primer plano, como si allí pudiera haber algo.

Al mismo tiempo, cerca del arbusto a la derecha, en cada obra se esconde uno de los animales de los Big Five: el león, el elefante, el rinoceronte, el búfalo o el leopardo. La cabeza del animal sale de la imagen y mira hacia las figuras, como si estuviera escondido y las estuviera observando en secreto. Esto crea una escena humorística.

Le teste delle figure sporgono dal veicolo mentre scrutano il paesaggio. Una delle figure è scesa dal veicolo e guarda dietro il cespuglio a sinistra in primo piano, come se lì potesse esserci qualcosa.

Allo stesso tempo, vicino al cespuglio a destra, in ogni opera si nasconde uno degli animali dei Big Five: il leone, l’elefante, il rinoceronte, il bufalo o il leopardo. La testa dell’animale emerge dall’immagine e guarda verso le figure, come se si stesse nascondendo e le osservasse di nascosto. Questo crea una scena umoristica.
