SAD CHIMP is a tribute to the iconic primatologist Jane Goodall, whose lifelong work profoundly changed the relationship between humans and animals. At the center of the piece is the chimpanzee from the famous video in which Goodall embraces him. In this interpretation, the chimp sits alone on a bright red cage, a figure both poignant and unsettling. On the cage is the text: “WHO YA GONNA HUG NOW…”, a direct and confronting question that marks Goodall’s loss and underscores the emptiness left by her absence in the world of animals and their protectors.
